Hong Kong’s Harbour City mall recruits ‘art lifeguards’ to promote Carole Feuerman exhibit
Harbour City, Hong Kong’s largest shopping mall, which brought the iconic rubber duck to the harbour in 2013, has recruited a team of ‘art lifeguards’ as part of a campaign to promote a new swimming pool-themed exhibition by sculptor Carole Feuerman to bring in summer visitors.
A Facebook competition to find young people conversant in English, Cantonese and Putonghua to guide visitors around the exhibit attracted 400 entry videos. Out of a shortlist of 30, seven were chosen, who feature in this video.
The installation is Feuerman’s first in Asia.
Harbour City, which is located next to the famous Star Ferry Terminal on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, says that exhibitions deliver an increase of roughly 10 per cent in sales revenue for its retailers, which includes Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Burberry and Hugo Boss.
The exhibit is to run from today until 5 July.
Harbour City brought Florentijn Hofman’s giant floating rubber duck to Hong Kong in 2013.
