Philips appoints Elaine Ng from Visa to head up ASEAN communications

Elaine NgPhilips has appointed a new head of communications for ASEAN Pacific.

Joining the company from Visa is former TODAY newspapers and Singapore Press Holdings journalist Elaine Ng, who will lead the Dutch electronics giant’s internal and external communications across the region.

At Visa, a company that has drawn fire in recent weeks for its associations with footballing body FIFA, Ng was director for corporate relations, Southeast Asia.

Philips is divided into two areas that Ng will focus on; HealthTech and Lighting Solutions. HealthTech was formed from the merger of the healthcare and consumer lifestyle businesses last year.

She replaces Christina Celestine, who has moved to pharmaceuticals research firm Sanofi Pasteur to oversee comms for a plan to introduce a dengue vaccine for the APAC region.

Ng’s appointment comes a few weeks after Philips CMO Damien Cummings left the company to join Standard Chartered Bank.

Her role will have some involvement with Philip’s social media command centre, which was set up by Cummins eight months after he arrived. Part of her task will be to figure out how big a part of Philips’ communications strategy the Conversation Engine, which was set up in September last year, will form.
