StarHub has appointed a new chief marketing officer who will oversee not only marketing but also the Singapore media giant’s pay TV, broadband and content production businesses.

Coming in from Lenevo’s finance wing, where he oversaw mergers and acquisitions as VP of corporate development is Howie Lau, who replaces Jeannie Ong. She has moved to a newly created role as chief strategic partnerships officer.

Lau, who was previously VP of marketing and communications for Lenovo’s emerging markets, will run StarHub’s marketing functions and also its Entertainment & SmartLife and Media Business Unit divisions

StarHub CEO Tong Hai Tan said that the restructure was made to make the company more agile by bringing the business and marketing functions closer together.

“In this fast evolving industry, agility is key,” he said in a statement from the company. “For greater synergy between business and marketing, and for faster go-to-market, the StarHub CMO role has to go beyond the traditional marketing functions and take charge of product lines too. Hence, the new CMO will also oversee our Pay TV and Broadband businesses as well as our Content Division. I am very happy that Howie will take on this role as he is an all-rounder with vast experience in both business and marketing.

StarHub’s mobility business will continue to be led by Kevin Lim, StarHub’s chief commercial officer. Dennis Chia has been brought in as the new CFO.

Ong’s new role sees her relinquish her marketing duties and focus on building and maintaining relationships with government agencies and content partners. She will continue to be responsible corporate communications, investor relations and corporate sustainability.

StarHub CEO Tan Tong Hai said: “Strategic partnerships with both local and global players are important to StarHub’s future growth story, and establishing the new CSPO role is testimony to our commitment to bring StarHub to the next level. Jeannie is ideal for this role, with her strong business acumen and analytical skills, deep understanding of the industry and excellent networking skills.”

In her time as CMO, StarHub was named brand of the year and Ong name client of the year at the Hall of Fame Awards in 2014.
