Microsoft has appointed a new head of marketing for Asia Pacific.

Joining the company from the computing giant’s Hungarian operation is István Papp, who takes on the role of VP for sales, marketing and services, APAC.

He has moved to Singapore and his first day in the job is today.

Papp replaces Alvaro Celis who is moving to a global role in Seattle. Celis was Microsoft’s top marketer for the last four years.

Papp was previously GM of Microsoft Hungary.

Papp said in a statement: “A transformation is happening at Microsoft right now. We will be the leading provider of productivity and platform solutions for this new “mobile-first, cloud-first” era. And, with the region’s highly mobile, highly-connected, highly-social citizens and businesses, nowhere will that vision become more of a reality than right here in Asia Pacific.”

“So I could not be more excited to be joining the APAC region and helping our customers realise their potential – and achieve more – in this new era,” he said.
