Asian titles awarded for technical excellence at PANPA newspaper of the year awards

PANPATaiwanese, Hong Kong and Singapore newspapers were among the winners in the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association Awards on Friday, a ceremony that has always been dominated by Australasian titles.

Though Asian newspapers put in a weaker showing than last year, when Apple Daily was named news site of the year, Apply Daily Publications was awarded two gongs for the technical excellence of Sharp Daily and Apple Daily.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post also received an award for technical excellence.

The only other award to go to an Asian newspaper was the Best Young Reader Program, which went to Singapore’s The Straits Times.

The New Zealand Herald held off competition from a slew of Australian papers to take the top award of Newspaper of the Year in the national/metro category.
