Bloomberg TV Philippines goes live

Bloomberg TV PhilippinesBloomberg’s local English-language operation in the Philippines went live today.

Bloomberg TV Philippines, a partnership between the New York-based financial media giant and local media firm Cignal TV, went to air with First Up Philippines, a one-hour show featuring an interview with billionaire port operator and casino tycoon Enrique Razon, as well as reports from Bloomberg journalists in New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The 24-hour channel, which is the first of its kind in the Philippines, is to focus on the country’s coming elections “as part of our commitment to fast and accurate daily global broadcast material with unique, tailor-made local content,” the company said in a press release.

The deal between Bloomberg and Cignal TV was announced in March this year.

The launch comes a few weeks after it emerged that Bloomberg had backed out of a local venture in Indonesia, which led to the suspension of Bloomberg TV Indonesia. The company said it is committed to Indonesia, and will seek another partner.

Bloomberg’s local ventures in Asia include India, Malaysia and Mongolia.
