Omnicom Media Group APAC boss Cheuk Chiang named APAC Effies jury chairman

The APAC Effies has announced the regional head of Omnicom Media Group as its jury chairman for its next awards show next year.

Cheuk Chiang, who is over two years into his role running the company behind media agencies OMD, PHD and M2M, said in a press statement that Effie is the “gold standard” for recognising ad effectiveness in Asia.

He said: “Having been involved in the APAC Effie, I am very impressed with the efforts Effie has in place to uphold and celebrate high standards in marketing effectiveness.APAC Effie is indeed the gold standard when it comes to recognising and rewarding marketing effectiveness in the region. Effectiveness is arguably the most important factor when it comes to judging the success of a campaign and something we always strive to achieve,” said Chiang.

“I am excited to work with my peers in the industry to continue driving marketing effectiveness in the Asia Pacific region,” he added.

Chiang took the top at OMG in 2013, succeeding Barry Cupples. He led PHD regionally since 2008, and before that ran CumminsNitro in Australia as MD.

The Melburnian was on a panel at the Mumbrella360 event in Sydney earlier this year, talking about the challenges of operating in the Asian media market.

The previous chairman of the APAC Effies was Leo Burnett boss Jarek Ziebinski, who talked to Mumbrella about the experience of judging this year’s awards in April. Ziebinski remains involved with the Effies as committee chairman.

He commented: “We are pleased to have Cheuk Chiang on board as the Chairman for the upcoming awards. Cheuk’s credentials and expertise in the field will be invaluable to APAC Effie in championing the most effective works in the region.”
