TCL invites Periscope followers to ‘talk’ to its new curved TV set in Halloween campaign

TV faceChinese smart TV manufacturer TCL is targeting consumers in the English speaking world with a campaign using Periscope, the live video streaming platform that runs on Twitter.

Timed around Halloween, TCL will enable Periscope users who tune in to TCL’s feed to ‘talk’ to one of the brand’s new H8800 Curved UHD TV sets.

Fans can use an “ask-me-anything” Q&A stream and ask a virtual ‘face’ that will appear in the middle of the screen. The face can smile, frown, nod and talk. Users who leave a comment will see their questions answered by the face in the TV. A stand-up comedian will serve as the voice-over actor for the TV, responding to questions in real-time.

Ranjit Gopi, global MD of TCL Multimedia, said: “We want consumers to see that TCL has personality; that we’re ready to listen to their feedback and questions and to respond to them. We Are Social‘s approach of engaging Periscope users in a creative way will allow us to engage in a two-way conversation with our global target audience while building an emotional connection with our brand.”

Pete Lin, MD, China, We Are Social, added: “This campaign shows how forward-thinking TCL is. Periscope has huge potential, yet we’ve still seen very few creative executions on the platform away from a simple event live-stream or product demo. TCL is an exciting brand with big global ambitions, and this is just the first step towards taking it to a wider audience.”
