Victor Ng joins J. Walter Thompson as Singapore ECD
J. Walter Thompson has hired Victor Ng as executive creative director of its Singapore office, Mumbrella can reveal.
The former Havas Worldwide chief creative officer joins JWT after a year-long search for an ECD.
He joins the agency after a while running his own startup agency Community. It was uncertain at the time of publishing if this business will now be wound up.
Ng, who left Havas Worldwide in March of last year, starts in his new role tomorrow and will work with chief creative officer Valerie Cheng and CEO Peter Womersley.
In a statement shared with Mumbrella, Ng said: “J. Walter Thompson has a rich tradition of creative excellence, and is home to many terrific creative leaders in Asia. Together with the strong support of Pete, Val and its leadership team, it’s an opportunity I could not refuse. I can’t wait to work with the team here as we take the next leap forward.”
The Singaporean started his career in advertising as a copywriter for Leo Burnett Singapore, where he spent two spells during his career, later as deputy creative director.
He also had a stint at London hotshop Mother before returning to Asia to join Euro RSCG, now Havas Worldwide, one of two terms at the agency. He has also worked at DDB Shanghai as ECD.
Cheng added: “I am proud to have Vic join the family. He’s home-grown talent with an international outlook, which is a real asset to our clients. He also possesses both creative and strategic capabilities, which is a very rare find.”
Gotta say he’s got balls to try everything at least once. Good move for one of the industry’s good ones.
ReplySometimes the best press is no press. He should’ve just slipped in there, put his head down and started working on some real projects.
ReplyWhy the vitriol? The personal attacks here aren’t in good form. Obviously he has a right choose his career path without judgement from trolls hiding under a cloak of anonymity. From someone who’s worked with him, pitched against him and judged with him, the guy’s one of the few true stars in the ad business with an enviable track record. Congrats Vic and take the high road.
ReplyCause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
ReplyAnd the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Sorry but no. Just pointing out a sad fact. An industry full of winners and whiners.
ReplyHuh…..the comments now have some obvious gaps in them.
Looks like someone made a few calls and got a few posts removed.
Possibly because they struck a nerve and too true to dispute or take legal action against.
ReplyCurious as to why an agency of such small size would need a CCO and an ECD when there’s a full blown recession going on. Is there so much new business there? STB is almost out the door and they lost a biig chunk of hsbc earlier this year.
