The regional head of innovation at DDB has moved on after 10 months in the job, Mumbrella can reveal.

Anthony J James joined DDB based in Hong Kong in March 2015 as chief innovation and growth officer to help drive digital and tech innovation for clients, but he is no longer with the company, the agency confirmed this morning.

He has returned to the job he held before joining DDB, at a digital consultancy firm he runs as MD, called Trinity Consultancy Services.

James, known in the industry as AJ, joined DDB in a highly publicised move to help bridge the gap between digital innovation and commerce for client.

David Tang, who is three months into his role of the new regional boss of DDB, told Mumbrella of the move: “This is part of the sweeping changes taking place across our offices. Out with the bureaucrats, here comes more practitioners and action heroes. Jeff Cheong [DDB’s regional head of digital] is our Tribal innovative head sweeping across the region, backed by our team of 40 technologists. Innovation requires a great, cohesive team across the offices to deliver on the solutions.”

The news emerges on the morning that LinkedIn announced James as the most influential agency thought leader on the business social network, based on how engaged he is with the platform. He came out just ahead of Timothy Whitfield, Group M’s director of technical operations and John Ziegler, who recently retired as DDB APAC’s regional chairman.

Before TCS, James was group CEO of Sample Central and was also executive VP and chief creative officer of Creata, a marketing premiums and promotions agency. He has also worked at Fujitsu Consulting and IBM e-business solutions.
