Earth Hour ‘Tweet your leader’ campaign targets politicians for action on climate change

Singapore-based environment movement Earth Hour has launched a mobile initiative to pressure the world’s leaders into supporting action on climate change.

Tweet Today, change tomorrow

In three steps, using the microsite Tweetyourleader.org, people can tweet their country’s head of state attending the apex global summit in Paris, which is being held until 11 December.

“As the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, we were keen to connect the grassroots to the corridors of power during COP21, a critical milestone in global climate efforts,” said Sid Das, executive director of Earth Hour Global, which is part of green group WWF. “Through Tweet Your Leader, we aim to show leaders seated in the meeting rooms that the world is standing with them to make climate change history.”

The agency behind the initiative is Havas Media’s mobile arm Mobext, which also produced the #TweetMyPower campaign earlier this year, raising funds via the use of social media hashtags.

Kat van Zutphen, GM of Mobext Singapore, said: “We are very excited to be partnering with WWF’s Earth Hour for yet another campaign. The agency’s commitment to #changeclimatechange is inspiring and very much in sync with our group’s ‘Meaningful Brands’ outlook. While working on this campaign we were focussed on ensuring that the integration process with Twitter was kept simple to allow for ease of use and we feel it’s already getting a lot of traction with users.”
