‘Creative’ is most overused self-descriptor by APAC marketers in LinkedIn profile summaries

LinkedIn has released a list of the most overused descriptive words found in profile summaries of the marketing community in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Australia.

The top 10 most used descriptors are:

  1. Creative
  2. Passionate
  3. Strategic
  4. Successful
  5. Motivated
  6. Driven
  7. Leadership
  8. Innovative
  9. Track record
  10. Dynamic

Commenting on the findings, LinkedIn’s regional head of comms Roger Pua, said: “Actions speak louder than words. Instead of building their LinkedIn profiles with overused buzzwords, we encourage our members to think about how they can stand out from the crowd and differentiate themselves, such as substantiating their work and achievements with concrete examples such as awards, presentations, research papers, etc. Remember too, that a picture says a thousand words, so let’s put an end to tired and overused buzzwords.”

LinkedIn has also released a series of cartoons to encourage its users to stop using the same descriptors in their profile summaries.
