Really good copy machines

So, in light of the controversy to emerge from the Kancils this year, where three campaigns which contributed to Dentsu Utama being named Malaysia’s creative agency of the year have been called into question for copycatting (one so far has been cleared of wrongdoing), three new works have been passed to Dr Mumbo that pay tribute to the award winners through the medium of Photoshop.

First up, here’s a new version of the WWF Indonesia advert, which claimed a whopping 29 awards, and has drawn an angry complaint from a 21 year-old British design student for plagiarism.

And here’s the ad for Uyee Chinese Medical Company, which claimed 20 awards, and was ruled by the Malaysia 4As to not be “sufficiently similar” to work for a Chinese skateboard decoration firm after Dentsu Utama brought in an international law firm to defend its case.

And here’s the reworked work for Web Privacy Watch, which some have pointed out might have been somewhat influenced by a piece by Swedish artist Erik Johansson. You get the idea..

But of course the similarities in all three works could simply be a Xerox-machine-sized coincidence.
