Havas Media has hired Ferdinand Gutierrez to run its Thai operation in the newly created role of chief executive.

Joining from apps company Buzzebees, where he was Thailand CMO, Gutierrez joins with a brief to establish the Thai operation as a digital hub for Indochina, where Havas recently made its mark in the sub-region through the acquisition of Riverorchid.

Gutierrez brings 20 years of experience into the role, having worked at Universal McCann, MindShare and Ogilvy, and with clients including Unilever, Coca-Cola, MasterCard, and IBM. He founded Sandbox Global, a social gaming firm, in 2010.

Vishnu Mohan, CEO of Havas Media Group Asia Pacific, commented: “Thailand is a strategically important market for Havas and a strong Thai leadership will greatly augment our position as leaders in the all important Southeast Asia market. We are truly excited to have someone of Ferdinand’s calibre join us to build our operations.”

“He not only has extensive experience of working in traditional and digital marketing but also has successfully built his own startup venture. His knowledge of new media and the start up world makes him the best person to deliver our “digital at the core” vision in the market,” he said.

The Thailand CEO role is new, with head of media Mrinal Sharma running the agency before Gutierrez’s arrival.
