Facebook appoints Garnier VP to head up Indonesian operation

SriFacebook has appointed the vice president of Garnier South Asia, Sri (Wido) Widowati, to spearhead its operation in Indonesia.

She will replace Anand Tilak who has been moved into the role of global brand partner.

The social media giant opened an office in Jakarta two years ago and at the time was its fourth largest market globally.

Widowati said the number of Facebook and Instagram users in Indonesia has continued to grow, with Instagram said to have doubled over the past 12 months to 22m.

“Indonesians on Facebook are a highly engaged, mobile first community who want to connect with each other and businesses in meaningful ways,” she said in a statement. “Over the past year, in Indonesia, Facebook has experienced double digit growth while Instagram has grown 100% from the previous year.

“On Facebook, we are helping 82 million Indonesians, 94 percent through their mobiles, connect with the people and things that matter to them most.

“I’m excited to return to Indonesia to help our partners tap into new opportunities that will empower them to innovate and grow their businesses.”

Facebook Southeast Asia managing director Kenneth Bishop said Indonesia was an important market for driving growth in the region.

“Wido’s experience in the region and vision for Indonesia will help us strengthen our support for businesses,” he said. “With Wido’s leadership we’re committed to investing in the resources to help our partners achieve their business goals.”

Prior to her VP role at Garnier, Widowati was the cosmetic firm’s head of international marketing and development for ASEAN. She has also held several roles at Unilever.
