WPP digital agency Essence opens Shanghai office

Digital agency Essence, part of WPP, has expanded its footprint with the opening of three new offices, including one in Shanghai.

The announcement:

Essence, a global digital agency, today announced it has formally established three new offices; one in The Americas via Chicago, Illinois, and two in Asia Pacific via Shanghai, China and Sydney, Australia.

These are the first locations to be added to Essence’s map following WPP’s acquisition of the agency in November 2015.

The expansion is a result of increasing client demands following a slew of global new business wins, and is being supported by the reach and infrastructure of GroupM.

All three locations are being staffed by Essence veterans who have relocated from the New York, San Francisco and Londonoffices, and each is engaging in an aggressive external recruitment effort to hire local talent, as well. The following individuals are currently serving as regional office leads:

  • Chicago: Eric Kirtcheff, global director of advertising operations
  • Sydney: Anna Stoyanova, Asia Pacific operations director and head of media for Australia
  • Shanghai: Al Chen, client partner

“This is an extremely transformative time for our agency,” said Christian Juhl, global CEO of Essence.  “Our clients have more global needs than ever before.  We’re excited to plant our flag in these incredibly influential cities and continue scaling alongside our clients’ businesses.”
