Prashant Kumar in discussions about his future at IPG Mediabrands

IPG Mediabrands Asia world markets president Prashant Kumar, one of the industry’s brightest young media agency bosses, is in discussions about his future after 13 years with the company.

Rumours circulating on Friday evening suggested that he has resigned, but he is being offered other opportunities within IPG, the company says. Sources suggest he has quit and will leave the company in April.

Kumar was promoted into the regional role running Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan for IPG Mediabrands after three years leading the agency in Malaysia, in 2011.

The global boss of IPG Mediabrands, Mauricio Sabogal wrote in a recommendation for Kumar on LinkedIn: “Prashant is for me the best media agency president in Asia and one of the best in the world,” crediting him with doubling the business in two years and bringing in clients including Malaysia Airlines, J&J, and Reckitt Benckiser.

Kumar, who started a consultancy while he was in business school in India, began his career in media with Leo Burnett Mumbai in 1999. Before joining IPG, he was regional head of communications planning at UM. He has also worked at Carat and Starcom.
