Leo Burnett creative chief Chris Chiu to lead judging for Singapore Young Lions competition
Mediacorp has announced the launch of a content for young creatives to represent Singapore in the Young Lions at Cannes this year, and Leo Burnett Singapore’s creative chief and CEO Chris Chiu is to lead the local judging panel.
The competition will involve three categories – print, film and cyber – and participants will have 48 hours to crack a brief aimed at raising the awareness of an NGO. To enter, creatives can click here and have until 15 March to register.
This year’s judging panel:
– Chris Chiu, CEO and Chief Creative Officer, Leo Burnett Singapore – Jury President
– Ali Shabaz, Chief Creative Officer, Grey Group Southeast Asia
– Charlie Blower, Founder and Creative Director, Blak Labs
– Gary Steele, Executive Creative Director, TBWA\Singapore
– Jeff Cheong, President, Tribal Worldwide Asia
– Joji Jacob, Group Executive Creative Director, DDB Group Singapore
– Jon Loke, Executive Creative Director, Publicis Singapore
– Pann Lim, Creative Director, Kinetic Design & Advertising
– Tay Guan Hin, Global Executive Creative Director, JWT
Like last year, the competition is limited to Singaporeans and permanent residents, and excludes foreign contenders working in Singapore on employment passes.
This requirement, introduced in 2014, was met with opposition from David Tang, regional head of DDB, and Calvin Soh, a prominent former creative. Soh commented at the time, “If the locals can’t do better than the global community working in Singapore, then what hope do they have in Cannes?”
Won’t let expat creatives compete, but happy to have expat CDs judge the competition.
Quintessentially Singaporean decision to limit the comp to locals. Heaven forbid they should face some real competition.
Reply2016, and there isn’t a single woman in the jury. I’m not second-guessing the competence of the panel, but this fact sends out the wrong message…
ReplyDitto to that
