iflix logoSky logoBritish pay-TV giant Sky has bought a stake in Iflix.

The Southeast Asia-based internet television firm, which is competing with Netflix and HOOQ for a share of the region’s rapidly expanding streaming content market, will now enjoy access to the News Corp-owned company’s content library as well as capital with which to expand.

The news emerges as Iflix prepares to enter Indonesia after also selling a stake to television giant Emtek Group, which runs some of the country’s most powerful TV stations. Emtek made the deal through its subsidiary Surya Citra Media, TechCrunch is reporting.

As Mumbrella reported recently, Iflix has appointed Cam Walker from Emtek Group to run soon-to-launch Iflix Indonesia.
