Grey Malaysia unveils dengue-fighting umbrella
An umbrella with a tip that contains mosquito larvae-killing chemicals that drain off when it rains is advertising agency Grey’s idea to fight dengue in Malaysia.
The agency says the attachable insecticidal widget, called the RainSprout, will be distributed across central Malaysia in dengue-hit areas this month for client Telekom Malaysia’s new digital mobility service provider, Webe.
RainSprout project will be listed on Webe’s community platform in June to raise awareness and drive further distribution, according to the agency.
Graham Drew, ECD Grey Malaysia, said: “The best thing about the RainSprout is you don’t have to do anything. Once you’ve fixed the sprout to your umbrella you just use it as normal. You are keeping dry from the rain, while helping keep your community safe.”
The idea falls into the category of what the network’s deputy worldwide chief creative officer Per Pedersen referred to in an interview with Mumbrella last year as “solvertising”, work that solves real world problems.
