J. Walter Thompson has appointed a new ECD in Hong Kong.
Simon Welsh, who is the agency’s ECD for the global HSBC account, takes on the role of ECD for JWT Hong Kong. He will retain his existing job.
Welsh replaces Craig Howie, who is moving on to pursue new opportunities, the agency has confirmed. Howie joined the Hong Kong office two and a half years ago after a short stint in Shanghai for JWT China.
Lo Sheung Yan, J. Walter Thompson’s Asia Pacific Creative Council Chairman, commented: “Simon has been instrumental in the success of the HSBC HK Hub. I look forward watching him infuse his leadership and creativity to all the other brands our Hong Kong office works with.”
Welsh, whose career has involved stints at Rapier, HHCL & Partners and McCann in London, and also BBDO Guerrero in the Philippines, was behind HSBC’s recent 150th anniversary celebration campaign.
I guess no love for Craig? I’m sure the past 2 1/2 years was worth something. Not even a thanks for his efforts? Obviously not sure what the full picture is, but releases like this just make this industry look unprofessional.
