Spotify hires Asia head of sales

Ong Sea Yen

Music streaming service Spotify has hired a head of sales for the region.

Joining the company from digital marketing firm CtrlShift is Ong Sea Yen as regional VP of sales.

He will sell across Spotify’s advertising products which include Sponsored Sessions and Mobile Overlay to reach the site’s mostly mobile audiences.

Spotify’s Asia sales were previously handled by Jonathan Nadiranto, who left the company in December last year.

Ong was previously head of business consulting at CtrlShift, which sold Spotify advertising in Malaysia and Philippines as a reseller, based in KL.

In a press release, Ong said that Spotify “signifies the rise of a new state of maturity for content streaming.”

The company, he said, has “placed great focus on cutting edge and data driven technology in order to build solid advertising solutions for brands to connect with its targeted audience. It is my privilege to be a part of Spotify’s dynamic advertising sales team, and to deliver these unique solutions to the Asia markets.”

Ong, a former Rapp Collins and OgilvyOne account handler, has also worked for KL-based digital company Yellow Brick Road, which later merged with a number of other digital firms to form Better Digital Solutions.
