Lighter variety of German beer Ganzberg makes Cambodian millennials weightless in new ad

Champagne Communications, the sister agency of Havas Riverorchid, has launched a new campaign for beer brand Ganzberg to introduce a lighter variety of the German brew.

The ad begins with a man bearing a resemblance to German footballer Lothar Matthäus walking into a futuristic bar where he drinks a can of Ganzberg.

“Our objective is give Khmer people the opportunity to explore a new experience and a new taste that fits with their way of drinking,” said Dannith Oung, MD of Champagne Communications.

Oung explained that German beer is often perceived to be too strong for local tastes, so Ganzberg tweaked the recipe to make it a slightly lighter flavour.

The commercial is to run nationwide on Cambodian television during the live broadcasts of the Euro 2016 football championships.
