Myanmar establishes ad agency association

An industry body for advertising agencies has been set up in Myanmar, the region’s youngest ad market.

The Advertising Agencies Association of Myanmar, or the AAAM, has been formed to develop the country’s $US200m ad market according to international standards and practices, educate the job market about the value of the advertising profession, and set the tone for the “rebirth” of the industry.

AAAMThe body will be led by the chairman of Today Ogilvy Dr. Tha Thun Oo, and Mango Media’s Aye Hnin Swe, who featured in an article on the dos and don’ts of advertising in Myanmar, will be secretary of the association.

Founding agencies include the Mango Group, Today Ogilvy, Myanmar SPA Advertising, Future Com, Coca Media, Net Com, Mandalay Advertising, Red Line, Ignite and Y&R.

The group plans to develop guidelines and codes of conduct, recruit new members, develop a relationship with the government and media owners to establish rules and regulations for the industry.

Dr. Tha Thun Oo commented: “We hope to play a key role in the Myanmar advertising industry, by advocating an atmosphere of professionalism, creativity and a genuine interest in uplifting the standards of advertising in the country. ”

“There is no other way but for our companies to work together, if we want to keep the industry abreast with the fast-changing Myanmar business landscape. As an organisation, we want to position AAAM as the voice of Myanmar’s developing advertising industry,” he said.

Oo added that the wanted to assure all members that it would be serving their interests as major stakeholders in the industry, and would be working to uphold the standards and tenets of advertising in Myanmar.
