Telekom Malaysia to review media

Telekom MalaysiaTelekom Malaysia, one of the country’s largest advertisers, is preparing to call a media review, according to numerous industry sources.

The media account is currently with IPG Mediabrands agency UM, which has held the business for eight years, retaining it after a multi-agency pitch in 2014.

Telekom Malaysia, which spends around US$20m in media, has not commented on the news, although the review is widely expected to be called in the coming days, with agencies gathering resources in preparation.

The review emerges at a time of transition for IPG Mediabrands, which has parted ways with KL-based World Markets boss Prashant Kumar, Malaysia MD Ramakrishnan C.N. and head of social Derek Tan, who have joined Kumar’s new consultancy business Entropia.

The last review was a protracted affair, with UM and Carat going head to head in a process that lasted six months.
