Carat hires Lorraine Capel from Astro as Malaysia CEO

Lorraine CapelCarat has named a new CEO in Malaysia, bringing in Lorraine Capel from pay-TV giant Astro to replace former boss Bala Pomaleh, who has moved on to rival IPG Mediabrands.

She takes over the top job in October, bringing with her media agency experience with GroupM, where she worked for an 11 year stint and Starcom, where she ran the P&G business.

She will report to Nicky Lim, CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network Malaysia, and will also be part of the executive committee of the market’s network group.

Lim commented: “[With Capel’s] penchant for success, agility to challenge convention and innovate, as well as strong business acumen, we are confident she has the right values and calibre to lead Carat and take responsibility to create better business value for clients.”

Her arrival comes at a time of considerable change for the senior ranks of Malaysia’s top media agencies.

Pomaleh’s move to IPG Mediabrands came after former World Markets head Prashant Kumar left the business and started his own consultancy and Omnicom Media Group’s Malaysia CEO Andreas Vogiatzakis left to launch a local offering of Havas Media.
