IPG Mediabrands hires Kasper Aakerlund from GroupM as new Hong Kong CEO

Kasper AakerlundIPG Mediabrands has hired Kasper Aakerlund as the new CEO of its Hong Kong office.

Aakerlund joins an agency in a state of transition from GroupM, where he was COO for Vietnam and Indonesia, and replaces Lilian Leong, who has moved on to Hong Kong startup 9GAG.

His appointment comes soon after Omnicom Australia boss Leigh Terry was named IPG Mediabrands’ new APAC CEO, and Scott McBride was hired from Ogilvy as chief digital officer.

Aakerlund will report to Reg Davidson, the agency’s newly appointed COO.

Singapore, 25 July 2016 – IPG Mediabrands has appointed Kasper Aakerlund as CEO of Hong Kong, to lead its overall business strategy and operations, while driving the growth of its diversified services.

Commenting on his appointment, Reg Davidson, Chief Operating Officer of IPG Mediabrands, Asia Pacific, said “I am delighted to welcome such a dynamic and future-thinking leader to our team in Hong Kong and am keen to see him grow the fantastic team that we have built there. Kasper’s track record in leadership and the fast-changing Digital business gives him the agility needed to keep pace with the incredible speed of change in media. Prior to his appointment, Kasper was the COO and CDIO of GroupM Vietnam and Indonesia, where he cultivated substantial partnerships with General Management, Digital Investment and Business Development. He oversaw two of the fastest-growing global markets with 850 advertising specialists.

Kasper comes with 11 years of industry experience, developing a strong background in Digital where he started his career in Denmark as a Digital planner with Omnicom Media Group and later moved to take on the role as Chief Digital Officer of Carat and Vizeum. He then moved to head boutique digital outfit, Suddenly CPH and later taking on the reigns of CEO at Isobar. He continued to shine in his region as CEO and Head of Isobar Nordics just prior to his last assignment.

Known for his strong business intelligence, Kasper has cultivated and grown diversified business units throughout his career, while developing new products. Most recently, he designed and launched a Digital Performance unit while innovating the Data Management Platforms (DMP) product.

He will start his new assignment with IPG Mediabrands mid-September.
