Rubber boy is Malaysia’s most-watched ad of 2016 so far

Rubber boy

Leo Burnett Malaysia’s Chinese New Year film for Petronas, Rubber boy has topped a ranking of the most watched ads in the country on YouTube for the first half of the year.

The five-minute ad, which is at the centre of a legal tussle over its creative origins between the agency and a director who pitched for the work, is ahead of an ad for pharmacy chain Watsons and McDonald’s.

2. Watsons Malaysia ‘#HappyBeautifulYear’

3. McDonald’s Angry Birds

4. Old Town White Coffee

5. BSN Malaysia

6. Lego

7. Samsung Malaysia

8. Ju Xiang

9. Gameview International

10. KFC Malaysia

The ranking, which is put together using a combination of organic views and paid views, shows “the amazing creativity alive today in the Malaysian ads industry,” according to a statement from Youtube. “And it’s creativity that would not exist without digital’s ‘canvas’.”

“Sometimes digital can seem to be all about technology, but the real promise of digital video ads is that it frees up brands and agencies to spend more time doing what they do best — getting creative — leaving computers to figure out the hard stuff like when and where to show an ad,” the company stated.
