Ranga Somanathan leaves Starcom after 14 years to join OMG as Sony Wong steps down

Ranga SomanathanRanga Somanathan, the Southeast Asia COO of Starcom, has joined Omnicom Media Group as CEO for Singapore and Malaysia.

He will report to Jasmin Sohrabji, CEO for Omnicom Media Group, Southeast Asia and India, and takes charge of agency brands PHD and OMD.

Somanathan, who began a 14-year stint with Starcom in 2002, moves on from the agency a month after Southeast Asia CEO Jeffrey Seah also left at a time of considerable change for Publicis Groupe’s media agencies.

Somanathan replaces Sony Wong in Singapore, who will be leaving his position as CEO of Omnicom Media Group Singapore at the end of the year. OMG has stated that Wong is to take early retirement after more than five years with the group.

He also takes on the former role of Andreas Vogiatzakis, the long-time boss of Omnicom Media Group Malaysia, who has moved to Havas.

Sohrabji commented: “The realignment of leadership under a single leader reflects the common synergies of Singapore and Malaysia which will help in accelerating further growth. Ranga is the perfect candidate to spearhead the next phase of development for these two markets.”
