Asia Pulp & Paper spinner Jose Raymond exits after eight months, launches PR agency Spin

Jose RaymondJose Raymond has left Asia Pulp & Paper after just eight months as the company’s media spokesman for Singapore.

The former CEO of Singapore Environment Council and press secretary to the minister for the environment has started up his own PR agency, called Spin Worldwide.

Raymond joined the paper giant as vice president of corporate affairs some months after the firm’s products were stripped from supermarket shelves in Singapore because of APP’s alleged role in causing the haze, smoke from burning rain forest land in Indonesia.

The former Straits Times photo-journalist and Mediacorp correspondent joined APP to change the public’s mindset about the company, which has long battled with green groups over its land clearance practices.

Raymond’s new agency, which is using the slogan ‘Spin doctors doing what we do best’ has just gone live, setting up a presence on Twitter, Facebook.

Raymond declined to comment on the news.

APP told The Straits Times in a statement that Raymond left as a result of economic pressures on the company as a result of the haze. “Particularly in Singapore, the haze issue has had an impact on APP. As such, we regret to announce that as at Sept 1, 2016, Jose Raymond, vice-president of corporate affairs in Singapore, has left APP,” he told the newspaper.
