A year after launching in Thailand Iflix hires new country manager

Thinakorn ThianprathumInternet television service Iflix has hired a new head of its Thai operation a year after launching in that market.

Thinakorn Thianprathum, previously GM of Me Television Co, starts with Iflix on 3 October 2016 and takes the role of country manager from Iflix Thailand co-founder Artima (Kimmy) Suraphongchai, who will run the firm’s marketing strategy.

Emerging markets VOD brand Iflix has not found Thailand to be its easiest launch market, largely because of the prevalence of piracy as the most popular way to watch content online, and because of intense competition.

Iflix launched in Thailand in September 2015, and is also present in the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Malaysia, its home market.

iflix co-founder and CEO Mark Britt commented: “We are thrilled to have Thinakorn onboard to lead our business in Thailand. I am confident that his extensive experience in Thailand’s TMT industries will be hugely advantageous to our business as we continue to accelerate our rapid growth and consolidate our leadership position.”

Thianprathum brings 20 years of experience to the role, having worked for True Corp, where he was head of smartphone marketing, and Wisecom, a mobile developer firm he founded.
