WPP Asia M&A chief YK Leong passes away

YK LeongLeong Yee Kong, the head of mergers and acquisitions for WPP in Asia, has passed away.

The much-admired executive died on 26 August aged 55.

In a tribute to Leong, who oversaw more than 100 deals in Asia over a decade with the company, WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorrell said: “We will always miss the unique YK. We will miss his energy, commitment, dedication, hard-work, loyalty and cheerfulness. A wonderful colleague, husband, father and example to all of us. He remains an inspiration.”

Leong’s duties have been taken on by WPP’s chief digital officer Scott Spirit.

Leong moved into the top M&A job with WPP at the beginning of 2006, moving from Havas Worldwide, then known as Euro RSCG, where he spent four years.

During his time at WPP, Leong oversaw merger and joint-venture across most of the region, including in China, India, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Australia.
