Malaysia Airlines has struck a sponsorship deal with Liverpool FC as the English Premier League club’s airline partner.

The deal will give the airline access to an estimated audience of 1 billion people through TV and other channels, according to the club, with exposure to 40m in China.

MAS will be able to run ads on LED and static boards at each home game at Anfield, on the club’s website, publications and Facebook page.

The airline will be granted merchandising rights and be able to run experiential experiences, such as pitch side access, and get access to club ambassadors.

Peter Bellew, who was appointed CEO of Malaysia Airlines in June, commented: “Liverpool FC is one of the most followed clubs in the world, including around 100 million in Southeast Asia and 40 million in China, our key markets. The partnership will go a long way in increasing awareness of Malaysia, as a tourist destination, to a huge global audience.”

The news emerges a few weeks after Liverpool’s main shirt sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank, gave fans a 360 degree video tour of the Anfield in a new activation.

Liverpool is the second most well-supported club in Malaysia, according to research from sports marketing agency Octagon, after rival Manchester United.
