McCann talent chief Jean-Michel Wu leaves for recruitment firm
The Asia Pacific head of talent for McCann Worldgroup has moved on after two years in the role.
Wu joined McCann from WPP where he spent a decade in August 2014, moving from Shanghai to Singapore.
McCann has named Makarand Tare as Wu’s replacement. He moves up from his position as APAC head of talent for McCann Health.
Wu’s next role is with recruitment firm Grace Blue, where he will team up with former WPP colleague Michael Maedel, who was long-time international head of J. Walter Thompson before joining the executive search firm as regional chairman at the same time as Wu joined McCann.
When Wu joined McCann, regional head Charles Cadell described him as “the best there is” in creative recruitment.
In a statement shared with Mumbrella, McCann said: “We confirm that Jean-Michel Wu will be leaving McCann Worldgroup later this month. We understand that his passion is recruitment, so wish him well with his new role. Stepping into the position of CTO will be Makarand Tare. Previously the regional talent director for McCann Health APAC, Mak is a specialist in HR strategy and is perfectly placed to lead the Talent function for McCann Worldgroup APAC.”
Wu came in to replace Ken Hoskin, who moved to Airbnb.
Less than 2 years ago Mumbrella did a big interview with this guy on why he was leaving WPP to go to McCann – given that he lasted less than 2 years it clearly wasn’t the strategic career move and challenge it was touted to be.
Not holding my breath for the next puff piece…
