Microsoft hires Tara Bal as APAC comms director as Peter Galli departs after 8 years

Tara BalMicrosoft has hired a new head of comms for the Asia Pacific region.

Joining the company from storage and data firm NetApp is Tara Bal, who takes on the role of communications director for Asia Pacific based in Singapore.

She will oversee comms for Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and South Korea, and comes in to replace Peter Galli, who moves on after eight years with the computing firm.

Bal will work with Andrew Pickup, Microsoft’s Asia director of comms, who covers Japan, India and China, and an agency roster that includes Singapore-based Infom.

In a media statement Bal said one of the reasons she took the role is because Microsoft is one of a “handful of technology companies globally that can make a material difference in people’s lives.”

She started her career as a broadcast journalist and news anchor for Mediacorp radio station 938LIVE before moving into tech PR. Her CV includes stints at SAP, Cadence and Silicon Valley PR firm E21.
