Mumbrella Asia hires publisher as part of expansion push

Dean CarrollAs a sign of intent to expand its presence in the marketplace, Mumbrella Asia has appointed a new publisher in Dean Carroll.

Carroll – most recently group editor of the Middle East edition of Campaign magazine – will be based in Singapore, where he will join editor Robin Hicks.

He will lead this year’s Mumbrella Asia Awards, which are being run for the third time, in February in Singapore. The call for entries will be launched next Tuesday, October 18.

For the first time, the Mumbrella Asia Awards will include Asia-Pacific ‘agency of the year’ awards – open to agencies from across the APAC region – along with new categories designed to recognise the importance of transformational technology.

Carroll will also explore the commercial opportunities in relation to the potential launch of the Mumbrella360 conference in Singapore. Last month, Mumbrella360 was named conference of the year at the Australian Event Awards.

The move comes after Mumbrella Asia entered into an agreement with Publicitas to offer sales and sponsor representation for Mumbrella Asia across the region.

Carroll said: “My move represents a ramping up of our efforts to position Mumbrella Asia as a critical friend to the industry, helping the key and emerging players with the resources vital to doing great work whether it be media coverage, events or training masterclasses. We are also considering other large-scale events that might be suitable for the Asia market, especially Mumbrella360 Asia. It has the potential to elevate our regional business to the next level following the major wins in Australia.”

Meanwhile, in Australia Mumbrella has also announced a series of promotions and hires as the company continues to expand. After three years at the helm, editor Alex Hayes will in 2017 move into a new role as head of Mumbrella Labs.

Mumbrella Labs will expand on the company’s existing bespoke client events offering and build upon it with new ways of helping brands speak directly to Mumbrella’s audience in a transparent and authentic way. Hayes will continue to work out of Sydney, and will also collaborate with Carroll on content marketing, native advertising and bespoke event solutions for Asia.

Carroll can be reached by emailing
