CNBC revamps news structure with Asia news boss given task of driving digital content

CNBC logoFinancial news channel CNBC has said it is stepping up its digital operation after handing an expanded role to head of news and programming for Asia Pacific, Michael Kearns.

Kearns will be responsible for driving the network’s digital product and content outside the US in his new position as vice president international digital and head of news and programming.

In a further change, head of new news and programming for EMEA, Patrick Allen, has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president, international managing editor with responsibility for all news desk activities and reporting across Asia Pacific and EMEA.

CNBC said the moves are part of a wider strategy “to transition into a truly multiplatform global news provider”.

Allen will also have responsibility for building CNBC’s editorial presence in emerging markets.

Senior VP international news and programming John Casey said: “These organisational changes will enable us to continue moving forward as the global leader in multiplatform business news delivery.”

Meanwhile, Neelabh Chaturvedi, a senior member of CNBC’s digital team in Singapore, will move to a newly created role of newsroom strategy director, international, with responsibility for developing data-centric strategies for CNBC’s editorial products and services.
