Digital agency Columbus expands to Malaysia

columbusDentsu Aegis has expanded its digital marketing agency, Columbus, to Malaysia, 16 months after the brand first launched in Asia.

It brings the number of markets served by the brand to eight.

Columbus Malaysia will be Dentsu Aegis’s second digital performance brand in the country and will operate alongside Consider iProspect.

The business will be led by Abdullah Alkury in his role as managing director. He was previously head of business development at Consider iProspect.

Former Consider iProspect associate Matthew Wong has been named business director.

“We’re very excited to launch Columbus Malaysia and bring proven expertise from the business overseas to deliver great results for our clients locally,” Alkury said in a statement. “Businesses here are rapidly beginning to adopt online marketing as a core part of their marketing strategies, with internet penetration at one of the highest in the Southeast Asia region.

“Drawing on the vast capabilities in the Dentsu Aegis Network group, we can’t wait to get going on bridging the gap between consumption and spend on digital in Malaysia by assisting our clients in integrating digital directly into their business.”

Dentsu Aegis Network Malaysia chief executive, Nicky Lim, said the launch further demonstrated its strategy to develop its digital marketing network.

“Furthermore, we have our eyes set on becoming a 100% digital economy business, and with Columbus now on board….we’re accelerating that vision as well as significantly enhancing our network’s capability in delivering innovative and diverse solutions to clients,” he said.

Columbus was founded in Australia in 2006 and has since expanded to New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
