Hrivnak to head up Facebook’s global music strategy and business development
Facebook has hired Tamara Hrivnak to head up its global music strategy and business development.
The former director of music partnerships at YouTube and Google Play confirmed the appointment in a post on her personal Facebook page, stating that she looked “forward to deepening Facebook’s relationship with the music industry”.
Hrivnak is a veteran of the music business, having spent almost eight years at Warner Music Group and Warner/Chappell before joining Google in 2011.
“Music is important and it matters – it connects and binds us to times, places, feelings and friends,” said Hrivnak. “My career has been dedicated to growing opportunities for music in the digital landscape. Facebook is all about making the world more open and connected and music can play an important role – I’m excited to join that effort.
“As for the incredible team at Google I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside – thank you for inspiring, teaching and amazing me. I’m privileged and proud to have been part of your journey. I know your futures will be bright.”
Facebook is expected to make a move into the licensed music content field in the near future, having faced pressure to sign licensing deals covering videos uploaded by its users.
