Dr Mumbo

The ad you never expected to see: Bargain-basement Maseratis – ‘All units must go’

Dr Mumbo does not consider himself an aficionado in terms of supercars. A 2007 Fiat Punto does exactly the same job, as far as he’s concerned.

However, his knowledge is not so lacking as to be unaware that Maserati is somewhat of a big deal in motoring circles. He was therefore surprised to come across this print ad recently:

“All must go.” The words you expect to see when a defunct retailer closes down. Not exactly what you would expect from one of the world’s premium supercars.

However, the fault isn’t to be laid at the Italian brand’s doors. The Singaporean distributor Hong Seh is to be replaced by Ferrari’s local agent, Ital Auto. The keys change hands from May 18 – in three days – which perhaps explains the urgency injected into the ad.

Maybe Dr Mumbo will even get himself down to Hong Seh tonight. After all, S$350,000 is practically a bargain in Singapore. Or perhaps he will just catch the MRT as usual.
