24 Hours With…. Octagon’s Aaron Pearce

24 Hours With... spotlights the working day of some of the most interesting people in Asia’s marketing and media landscape. Today, we hear about a day in the life of Aaron Pearce, Octagon’s client services director in Singapore

5am I’m woken by a small two-year-old boy crawling over me into bed

6am After enough slaps to the face and the iPad running out of power from excessive Peppa Pig plays, I’m forced to exit bed. Quick phone call with our First Call & Frukt teams in New York as they’re trying to lock away an APAC deal for Mastercard with one of the biggest singers in the world, fingers crossed.

6:30am Head off on a morning walk with my son Parker, five toys, a bike and his dog Daisy. I check latest sports scores and socials, then back to feed the herd. This morning I am watching The Wiggles for only the 1,000,000th time, I could sub in any time as a backup singer at this rate

8am Off to work listening to a podcast –current are Oprah and Hamish & Andy (for a taste of home).Different forms of inspiration from building a billion dollar empire to eating the entire menu at McDonalds.

8:30-9:30 Check on emails that have come through from our global offices; currently working on some interesting projects with our European and US offices around Esports.

9:45 Quick look at The Betoota Advocate for a laugh

10-11 Catch up with account leads on our projects across APAC; the diversity of activations proves to me why I moved here from Sydney when making calls to Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong, Sydney and Tokyo in the space of one hour. For example, the Standard Chartered Bank team are in the middle of LFC World & LFC Tour with Liverpool FC; my Whats App is full of current and ex-players shooting in Shanghai and Anfield with our production arm Milk Money.

Noon Got to have lunch, and I highly recommend the Indonesian BBQ stall on level 6 of Plaza Singapura. They’re so nice there, probably because I go there three times a week. Go the fish, it’s delish, Aykan Azar our MD prefers the chicken…it’s a close race.

1-2 At the moment doing a lot of interviews around this time, we’re growing across APAC so have the pleasure of meeting loads of wonderful people going for client services roles. Maybe I can start a show with the tagline ‘you’re hired’ and don a white wig

2-3pm Strategy projects, which can range from sponsorship reviews with our proprietary research tools to brief strategies for current projects we’re pitching on. Phone call with Aykan as he’s in Olympic pitch mode.

3-5pm Head across to Mastercard to chat regional strategy for their global and Asia based properties, including the Australian Open and Priceless Experiences

6pm Back to the office to whip Aykan in table tennis, just another day really. Now I’m warmed up, I get changed and run home

7pm Home to be greeted by a dismissive 2-year-old and back goes the iPhone – wait how do you know how to facetime Nan? Then, speak to my mum back in Sydney for 30 minutes.

9pm Currently Homeland, bit addicted, last episode tonight then back to a good book, currently reading Outliers by Malcom Gladwell

10-11pm Few emails as a nightcap – now the US and the UK back online. Then off to bed to go it all again tomorrow
