BBDO taps pro surfer Luke Landrigan for Guinness ad
Irish alcohol brand Guinness has recruited Philippines-based professional surfer Luke Landrigan to star in a new 90-second online video.
The video, made by BBDO, tells the story of how Landrigan turned the small Philippines fishing village of San Juan into a surfers’ paradise.
Dubbed ‘What are you made of’, the campaign has been released on Facebook and YouTube and is targeted at the Singaporean market.
“We aim to showcase Guinness’s core brand values by turning the spotlight on individuals who embody them,” said Guinness Singapore marketing director Venus Teoh.
“In Singapore, this means celebrating people who have the courage to carve out their own paths and are making a positive impact on the communities around them.”
BBDO Singapore executive creative director Primus Nair added: “It’s always a blast telling a Guinness story. There is such clarity to what the brand stands for, that the work always gravitates to powerful storytelling. Luke’s journey, and the impact he has had on the people around him, is a great example of this.”

After the amazing Surf ad for guinness by AMV BBDO, this is just nonsense….looks like a manifesto you present in a pitch. Fluffs up the client but consumers don’t get a hard on.
ReplyThe use of surfing isn’t new for Guinness.
ReplyBut there’s something fresh in the way this has been put together.
Tight copy.(You could detect the Irish beat if you listen closer).
Good direction.
Appropriate music.
It’s been repurposed to appeal to the asian drinker and I like it.
I’d raise a pint to the boys at BBDO.
Have your say
