Desh Balakrishnan to lead Maxus-MEC agency in Singapore

The managing director of Maxus Singapore is to lead the newly combined MEC and Maxus ‘NewCo’ agency in Singapore when it officially launches in January next year.

Desh Balakrishnan will remain in the role of managing director for NewCo, while MEC Singapore’s MD Allison Coley is said to be “transitioning into a new role” with the new entity next year.

He is so far the only Maxus MD in South East Asia to be named as leader of NewCo: elsewhere in the region, the operation will be led by MEC MDs.

These will be Christina Vacharanetr in Thailand, Maria Luz “Malu” Vasallo in the Philippines, Michelle Achuthan in Malaysia and Arup Bansal in Vietnam.

Balakrishnan has been Maxus Singapore’s MD for nearly three years, and prior to joining was part of Mindshare Singapore, AGI Communications and Chuo Senko Advertising.

Tim Castree, global CEO of MEC and NewCo, said: “We’re merging Maxus and MEC to form a brand new billion dollar revenue media content and technology agency, dubbed ‘NewCo’ for now. With such ambition, comes a need for brilliant talent to lead and inspire, and so today’s news is very exciting for us.

“Under Desh’s leadership, I am confident that we have the right team in place to truly blend the best of MEC and Maxus and make NewCo Singapore a formidable future-facing agency.”
