MEC APAC head Peter Vogel to return to Australia as NewCo CEO

The Singapore-based chief executive officer of MEC for Asia-Pacific is returning to Australia to lead GroupM’s merged MEC-Maxus entity ‘NewCo’ when it launches in January, Mumbrella Asia can reveal.

Vogel, who has been the MEC APAC CEO since mid-2015, will also continue to lead the South East Asia hub as part of the global NewCo organisation. Prior to moving to Singapore, Vogel was the head of MEC AUNZ CEO for over six years.

The announcement comes as GroupM plans to scrap its Asia Pacific management for the new entity and have all its regional leaders report straight to Tim Castree, global CEO of MEC and NewCo.

The news also follows the announcement that Maxus CEO Ajit Varghese will be moving from Singapore to London to head the global market development team at NewCo.

Castree said: “We’re merging Maxus and MEC to form a brand new billion-dollar revenue media content and technology agency, dubbed ‘NewCo’ for now. With such ambition, comes a need for brilliant talent to lead and inspire, and so today’s news is very exciting for us. Under Peter’s leadership, I am confident that we have the right team in place to truly blend the best of MEC and Maxus and make NewCo in ANZ a formidable future-facing agency.”

Last month, Desh Balakrishnan, the managing director of Maxus Singapore, was appointed to the role of MD for NewCo-formed company in Singapore.

Allison Coley,  the MD of MEC, is to remain in the agency for the time-being and will move to a regional role within NewCo  by the end of 2017.
