The Story Lab taps ex-Iflix executive for APAC presidency

Dentsu Aegis Network’s content arm The Story Lab has appointed Donovan Castillo-Mohlman as president for Asia-Pacific as Shuntaro Tanaka steps down from the role after just 18 months.

Tanaka, a Dentsu veteran who has worked for the company since 1997, will return to the holding company giant’s headquarters in Japan where he will take on an unspecified role.

Renowned for bringing the popular Japanese television format ‘Ninja Warrior’ to South East Asia and Europe, Tanaka previously held the dual role of COO of Dentsu Media Vietnam and head of The Story Lab for South East Asia, before taking on the APAC leadership in February 2016.

His replacement, Castillo-Mohlman, was the head of global director of content strategy for streaming service Iflix until June this year.

During his 18-year career, he has worked with international broadcasters such as NBCUniversal, AMC Networks International and Fox Broadcasting, as well as the Asian broadcasters StarTV and Mediacorp.

He reports to Sunil Yadav, president Amplifi Asia Pacific, who said: “Strengthening the content capability is a key focus for our group and Donovan is a great asset to lead The Story Lab in Asia Pacific. With his vast experience in content acquisition and original productions across Digital, VOD, and broadcast platforms, he is best-placed to accelerate the growth of The Story Lab.”

Castillo-Mohlman added: “With tablets and mobile driving even shorter screen dwell-time, it has become more important for distribution channels to have engaging content.

“I look forward to further strengthening our content capabilities across the region through the design of new, innovative models that create value for both advertisers and broadcasters for this new age of marketing.”
