Vizeum Malaysia appoints UM’s Chinar Joshi as GM

Dentsu Aegis Network media agency Vizeum has appointed a new general manager for strategy in Malaysia.

Chinar Joshi joins from IPG Mediabrands Malaysia, where he spent nearly five years at UM, first in a strategy and planning role. He was then promoted to general manager to lead its agency BPN last year.

During his tenure at IPG, Joshi handled clients such as Johnson & Johnson, CIMB, U-Mobile and Suntory and Cerebos. In his new role, he will report to Wong Siew Wai, the agency’s chief executive officer.

Hailing from India, Joshi has 10 years of industry experience, having worked at creative agencies Wieden+Kennedy and Ogilvy & Mather, before moving to the media side.

Commenting on the appointment, Wong said: “We intend to keep Vizeum’s growth on an upward trajectory and that means continuously improving our deliverables to existing clients while exploring new revenue streams. Joshi brings a creative and fresh perspective to the business – his insights on strategy and track record of pioneering commercial initiatives for both clients and agencies are aligned with Vizeum’s long-term game plan.”

Previously, Vizeum Malaysia’s team of strategy planners was lead from a DAN group level.

Last week, Vizeum’s APAC leadership changed hands as Kristian Barnes was named chief client officer, while MD Duncan Pointer succeeded him as the agency’s regional CEO.
