Ex-Y&R Indonesia boss Matthew Collier: ‘Iflix opportunity was irresistible’

Y&R Indonesia’s chief executive Matthew Collier is to depart the agency at the end of the month to head up Iflix Indonesia.

The move follows the departure of the video streaming service’s founding boss, chief executive Cam Walker, after just 18 months with the company. Walker resigned from Iflix in July and is currently working his notice until the middle of October.

Collier, who has worked with Y&R across its offices in Indonesia, Vietnam and Dubai, will report to Iflix’s incoming head of Asia, Jonas Engwall.

“Over 25 years in advertising and I felt like I needed fresh challenges,” Collier told Mumbrella Asia. “The combination of technology and broadcast in an emerging market was irresistible.

“January would have been 10 years at Y&R and it’s been an amazing ride across three countries. I wouldn’t have felt right going to another network, so changing industries was the best way to leverage my strengths into a growth industry.

“And Iflix has an amazing culture. Truly people first, and during the extensive interview process I was really blown away by their passion in getting the right fit between their culture, brand and the local team here in Indonesia.”

Iflix’s co-founder and group CEO, Mark Britt, commented: “Matt is an exceptional business and team leader, with a proven track record driving business growth and strategy. He will be instrumental in spearheading the company’s continued success in Indonesia, one of our most important and exciting territories. I am confident his expertise will be invaluable as we continue to evolve the iflix service with a singular focus on delivering the best entertainment experience for customers across Indonesia.”

During his three years as CEO of Y&R Indonesia Collier more than doubled the agency’s profits and brought home the country’s first ever Effie.

A Y&R spokesperson said Gregg Ainsworth would transfer from VML Indonesia to Y&R Indonesia and assume the role of interim CEO until a permanent CEO was named.

Iflix is headquartered in Malaysia and is available in 22 territories throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
