PubMatic names new Japan head as Yosuke Maekawa moves to Amazon

Adtech firm PubMatic has appointed Nicholas Kovac as country manager for Japan following the departure of founding boss Yosuke Maekawa.

Maekawa joined PubMatic from comScore in 2014 when the programmatic advertising platform for publishers first began operations in Japan.

He has since moved to Amazon Japan to take on the role of head of associates and display ads in the online marketing department.

The new country manager, Kovac, is an Amazon veteran, who previously worked for the e-commerce giant’s subsidiary OpenX to launch ad technology solutions into the Japanese market.

He will continue to be based in Tokyo and report into Jason Barnes, vice president of Asia Pacific at PubMatic.

Kovac said: “I am excited to start a new challenge within PubMatic and look forward to working with the team to further develop their already extensive product and service suite. I am fortunate to be joining such a respected company that prides itself on top quality service and technology.”

Barnes added: “Nick’s wealth of experience and industry knowledge and relationships makes him a key addition to the PubMatic family. We view his appointment as a sign of our commitment to being a leading supply side platform (SSP) in the Japanese desktop and mobile advertising space.”
