Former Imagination Hong Kong MD Chris Dobson to head up new agency The Labs

The former managing director of the soon-to-be-closed agency Imagination Hong Kong has been appointed to oversee a new experience design consultancy called The Labs.

Chris Dobson, who has worked at Imagination across Australia and Asia for eight years, will take on the role of MD for The Labs in Hong Kong, while the agency’s former business director Bobby Tsang will take on a similar role at the new agency.

Formed by the US-based Project Worldwide, an independent, employee-owned agency network, The Labs also has a base in Sydney and will service clients across the Asia Pacific region. Meanwhile, another of the network’s agencies, George P Johnson, launched in Singapore in 2000.

Speaking to Mumbrella Asia, Dobson said: “It’s my hope that there is space for an agency model that is experience agnostic, human-centric and not just focused on platforms. I’m really optimistic about how we can grow this in Hong Kong and APAC.”

He added: “The convergence of architecture, data, technology and brand communication is, in my mind, the most fertile creative space imaginable. Whether you are talking about retail, transportation, hospitality or commercial, the opportunities and benefits of better designed, smarter and more fluid customer experiences are impossible to ignore; it’s the absolute cutting edge of brand”

Earlier this year, Project Worldwide also launched its content marketing agency Spinifex Group in Hong Kong, where Tsang will also lead business development.
