Imagination Shanghai MD leaves China for Detroit to lead Ford account

The managing director for Imagination China is to leave the country after three years in order to take on a new leadership position in the United States.

Alistair Wilson, a 20-year veteran of Imagination, has been promoted to lead the experiential agency’s Ford Motor Company account from Detroit. He will also join Imagination’s global management board.

Wilson first joined Imagination London in 1998, before moving to Asia in 2005 to spearhead operations in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In 2010, he moved to the agency’s office in Australia, before returning to China in 2015.

He will relocate to the US in July this year. Meanwhile, the agency’s operations director Lee Wateridge has been promoted to general manager for the Greater China region.

Like Wilson, Wateridge has been with Imagination for over 20 years in a variety of senior roles including global production and operations director for Shell, working across Europe, USA and Asia.

Wilson’s relocation comes after a number of  client wins for Imagination, including Vivo, Carlsberg and two startup Electric Vehicle brands.

Group CEO Patrick Reid said: “I am delighted to promote Alistair to lead our Ford Motor Company relationship from Detroit and join our global management board.

“Over the past 20 years with the company, Alistair has been integral to driving the success of our businesses in three continents and most recently Shanghai. He is a well-respected leader with a truly entrepreneurial spirit who will excel in his expanded role with Imagination.”
